Taking Stock of Your Site

Think that since you have a web presence, that’s all you need? Maybe I should rephrase that: Is your Web site all your customers and clients need? I’m sure you review and update your offline marketing materials on a regular basis but have you looked at your Web site lately? A dated web site can make your company look, well, dated! And in this day and age, the last thing you want your clients to think of your company is that you’re “dated.”

There are some easy ways to update your Web site without an extensive and expensive complete overhaul. For many companies, creating a special “Clients Only” section that gives your clients special information and details not available to the general public can work wonders. (This tends to make the clients feel as if they’re a part of a relationship!) Other things to consider when taking stock of your current site:

  • What keeps clients coming back to your site? Are you offering relevant information or is the site strictly for potential new customers? Is that all you want from the site?

  • Are you guiding visitors where you want them to go? Or just hoping they get to the Contact Us page and pick up the phone?

  • Are you regularly placing your latest press releases on your site? How about news mentions?

  • Does information about your latest products / services take front and center?

  • What about graphics? Look at your offline brochures from five years ago - do they look old to you? Web sites can too!

  • What sets your site apart from your competitors?

This is just a start! Take a look at your site and ask friends and colleagues to do the same - fresh eyes can tell you a ton. If you feel overwhelmed, call a professional to help - before your clients call the competition.
